🇬🇷 Essential Greek Driving Rules

• Keep to the Right: In Greece, we drive on the right side of the road and overtake on the left.

• Seatbelts are Mandatory: All passengers, both in the front and back seats, must wear seatbelts at all times.

• Speed Limits: Unless otherwise posted, the speed limit is 50 km/h (31 mph) in built-up urban areas and villages, and 90 km/h (56 mph) on the open road.

• Don't Drink and Drive: Greece has strict drink-driving laws. The legal blood alcohol limit is very low (0.05%, and 0.02% for new drivers). If you plan on enjoying our local wine or ouzo, please designate a sober driver.

• Mobile Phones: Using a mobile phone while driving is strictly prohibited unless you are using a hands-free system.

🏝️ Driving Specifics for Lemnos Island

• Watch for Wildlife and Livestock: Lemnos has a rich agricultural heritage. It is very common to encounter flocks of sheep, goats, or even wild rabbits crossing the roads, especially in the early mornings, late evenings, or near rural areas like the sand dunes (Ammothines) or the salt lake (Alyki). Please drive carefully and be prepared to stop.

• Narrow Village Roads: When driving through traditional villages like Myrina, Kaspakas, or Kontias, roads can become quite narrow. Drive slowly, yield to oncoming traffic where necessary, and be mindful of pedestrians and parked cars.

• Winding Routes: Many roads leading to our spectacular beaches have sharp curves and blind corners. Take your time, enjoy the scenery, and honk your horn gently on tight, blind curves to warn oncoming traffic.

• Unpaved Roads: While Lemnos has a good main road network, some secluded beaches are accessed via dirt roads. (Note: Please check your rental agreement, as driving standard vehicles on unpaved or off-road tracks may void your insurance coverage. We are happy to recommend paved routes!)
